What's left after TEFA? Six El Paso examples

In El Paso the award sometimes exceeds the bill and sometimes falls short. These six cases put the 2026-27 amounts beside illustrative local tuition and say what to do with a surplus or a shortfall.

Scenario2026-27 TEFATuition + fees (illustrative)ResultThen what
Parish K-8 school in Central El Paso (tuition + fees)$10,474$7,900$2,574 leftTuition is covered. The rest can pay required fees, uniforms and books, then rolls over toward high school.
Catholic high school, Central El Paso (illustrative)$10,474$11,800$1,326 to payA modest gap. Rollover from the K-8 years, FACTS aid and dual credit through EPCC can close it.
Christian K-12 academy on the East Side$10,474$9,200$1,274 leftCovered, with money left for testing, tutoring or a Chromebook within the 10% technology cap.
Learning-support school, El Paso ISD resident with a mainstream IEP$16,714$19,500$2,786 to payThe IEP add-on brings the account to $16,714. School aid or insurance-billed therapy closes the rest.
Montessori elementary in the Upper Valley$10,474$11,400$926 to payA gap of under $1,000. Ask about sibling discounts and whether materials fees can be billed to the account.
Homeschool using an online program around $2,800$2,000$2,800$800 to payThe homeschool account leaves $800 to cover, and the program has to be an approved vendor to be paid from it.

The tuition amounts are examples, not quotes. No state or federal source publishes private school tuition, so ask each El Paso school for its current rates.

If there's a gap

Check FACTS aid and the Burkitt and Bishop's Scholarship funds at Catholic schools, school discounts elsewhere, EPCC dual credit for high schoolers, the Edu Fund scholarship where a church school is a partner, and the federal tax-credit scholarships coming in 2027.

If there's money left

Nothing is lost: the balance carries into next year while your child remains in the program, and it can go toward fees, tutoring, therapy, curriculum, EPCC courses, testing or transportation.
