Nine participating schools
The El Paso Catholic Schools office lists Cathedral High School, Father Yermo, Loretto Academy, Most Holy Trinity, St. Joseph's, St. Matthew, St. Patrick's Cathedral School, St. Pius X and St. Raphael as TEFA participants. Our directory shows which appeared in the state finder when we checked.
The award versus the bill
Scholarship pages from the Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of El Paso have described local Catholic tuition in a range of roughly $3,500 to $9,000 a year. If that holds at your school, TEFA covers tuition and the difference stays in the account for required fees, uniforms, books and later years.
Saving toward high school
Leftover funds roll over while the child stays in the program. A family at a parish K-8 school can build a cushion for Cathedral, Loretto or Father Yermo, where tuition is higher.
Aid when TEFA doesn't come through
Waitlisted families should file the FACTS Grant & Aid form as soon as their child is accepted. The Burkitt Foundation helps at seven schools, and the Catholic Foundation's Bishop's Scholarship Fund has awarded $500 to $4,000 a year with a pastor's or principal's recommendation.
Parish rates still apply
The state's tuition rules say a school must keep its general discounts, such as parishioner and sibling rates, for TEFA families.
Apply in both places
A TEFA award doesn't hold a seat. Apply to the school during its admissions season and to TEFA during the state window, and keep both confirmations.
