Close to a quarter of funded students statewide have a qualifying disability, and students with disabilities from households up to 500% of the poverty line sat in the program's first priority tier. For El Paso families with an IEP, that tier was the clearest path to an award.
The add-on depends on two things: the instructional setting coded in the IEP and the district the child lives in. In El Paso ISD a mainstream setting (code 40) brings the total to $16,714 for 2026-27. Socorro ISD comes to $16,942, Ysleta ISD to $16,974 and Canutillo ISD to $17,008. Resource and self-contained settings (codes 41-44) land between roughly $15,600 and $15,900 in those four districts.
Small districts receive more per student under the state formula, and El Paso County's rural districts show it. The same mainstream IEP is worth $20,314 for a Tornillo ISD resident and $19,998 in Anthony ISD. Out in Hudspeth County, Fort Hancock ISD reaches $20,912 and Sierra Blanca ISD $21,608.
Families living on Fort Bliss should use the El Paso ISD figures. There is no separate on-post district; the post sits inside El Paso ISD's boundaries.
A diagnosis from a private clinic doesn't trigger the add-on by itself. If your child needs an IEP, request a full evaluation from your home district well before the next application window, and remember that a homeschooled student with an IEP still receives $2,000.

Totals are the $10,474 base plus the district add-on from the Comptroller's 2026-27 Special Education Funding Table, capped at $30,000. Funded counts come from the TEFA Annual Demographic Report (data as of July 29, 2026); districts with fewer than 30 participants aren't listed in that report. All El Paso-area districts →
Combining it with other sources
Few El Paso families rely on a single source. This one normally works alongside the school's own discounts and at least one more item on this list, and the funding check lays out the exact mix for your child.
