What qualifies a school
Accreditation from TEA or an accreditor recognized by TEPSAC, at least two school years in operation, and a nationally norm-referenced test every year for participating students in grades 3-12. An online school needs a Texas office.
Pricing rules
TEFA families pay your standard tuition. Your general discounts, such as parish, sibling and staff rates, keep applying, and you need a written policy on how your aid relates to the award.
When money arrives
The state funds accounts 25% on July 1, 25% on October 1 and 50% on February 1. Families can choose to prepay, and any refund returns to the account.
Pre-K centers
You need a child care license in good standing plus one marker of quality: a Texas Rising Star rating of 3 stars or higher, Texas School Ready, a partnership with a public district or recognized accreditation. A center that also takes Workforce Solutions Borderplex's Child Care Services can serve families on both programs.
Well-known schools still outside
When we checked, several established El Paso schools weren't in the finder, including Immanuel Christian School, St. Mark's School and Lydia Patterson Institute. St. Pius X, which the diocesan schools office lists as a participant, didn't appear in our pull under that name. Any eligible school can apply at any time.
